As we all know, there have been a large number of social disputes with the Israelis and the Palestinians on the soccer field. In May 2015, the Palestinians proposed that Israel should be excluded from the international Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) tournaments – an idea that garnered a significant amount of backlash from Israeli and non-Israeli citizens.

Now, with only one week away before the start of the Union of European Football Associations’ (UEFA) Women’s Under-19 Championship Finals in Israel, a new campaign is being advocated to promote female sports and co-existence. The noble campaign that promotes female empowerment is known as ‘Football for All,’ and yesterday was endorsed by the blue-and-white and England women’s under-19 teams.

The two teams held a combined training session with both Jewish and Arab girls’ teams in order to promote the ‘Football for All’ initiative. The Jewish and Arab teams came from Yefia, Hadera and Netanya at the Wingate Institute. The three Jewish and Arab teams chosen to represent equality and co-existence on the soccer field are Maccabi Yefiya, Maccabi Kishronot Hadera and Netanya Girls.

Both of the Maccabi teams compete against one another in Israel’s Northern Girl’s League, while the other team is apart of Netanya Municipality’s excellence project.

The training session with the three teams is apart of New Israel Fund’s initiative, KIO Israel, which works to challenge racism and violence in partnership with the Israel Football Association and English Football Association.

The final tournament is scheduled to begin on July 15 and end on July 27. The competitions will take place in Lod, Ramle, Rishon Lezion and Netanya.
