Israeli President Reuven Rivlin hosted a soccer event this past Thursday at the presidential residence. The event, which has yet to be done before, included children and soccer stars from around the country. Together, they all played soccer with the goal of raising awareness about violence, racism, and that no matter who we are, we can all help put a stop to it.

“I love soccer, it’s not a secret,” said President Rivlin, as reported by The Jerusalem Post. “We are here today because we all love this game. But it wasn’t just the love of soccer that brought us here today. We stand here together because we all understand that we need to look into the eyes of violence and racism that’s polluting parts of our community.”

Another goal of the event, in addition to raising awareness, was to encourage football clubs to reach out to local communities and help encourage healthy relationships between fans of all backgrounds.

It also encouraged them to play a greater role in the country around them, and to care about more than just the love of soccer, but of community issues that affect everyone.

The event, which was fun for everyone, concluded with President Rivlin participating in the games, playing soccer with some of the children in the garden of the President’s Residence.
