Over the years, there have been many conspiracy theories and documentaries surrounding the Nazis, Hitler, and their various affiliations. However, a new documentary may win the award for ‘most conspiracy theories loaded into a single documentary’.

‘The Search for Hitler’s Atom Bomb’ posits that the Nazis may have not only developed the atomic bomb in the closing days of World War II, but that they may have also developed a ‘flying saucer’ to deliver the weapon.

The film uses quotes from interrogation reports of Nazi scientists, eyewitness accounts, and records left behind by researchers to support their claims that the Nazi nuclear-flying saucer existed. The documentary also claims that Russian prisoners were used in the testing of the Nazi weapon, which seems more appropriate in a futuristic dystopia where the Nazis won WWII than in a German documentary.

The documentary focuses on Hans Kammler, a S.S. general who was provided 175,000 concentration camp inmates to be used for slave labour. The prisoners were used in many ways, including in building V-weapons and tanks in Nazi factories, constructing secret bunkers, and acting as test subjects for the escalating Nazi nuclear program, which was accelerated as the war came to a close.

Kammler was a unique individual in that he was one of a select few to answer only to Hitler. As the Nazis became overwhelmed on all fronts, Hitler charged Kammler with leading the Nazi nuclear program. One of Kammler’s main projects took place in the Jonas Valley in Thuringia, eastern Germany, and was the supposed site of Hitler’s space and nuclear programs. Though many are curious to know what occurred in the secret Nazi tunnels carved into the valley, the United States placed a 100 year secrecy order on the operations and information discovered in their assault of the valley.

With the site now sealed off from the public, conspiracy theorists flock to the valley every weekend, where they question authorities stationed at the former Nazi research center. Many believe that the Americans discovered two things in the tunnels – a primitive, underdeveloped nuclear bomb, and a flying saucer meant to deliver the deadly cargo.

Many soldiers reported seeing what resembled flying saucers throughout the latter stages of the war, which were nicknamed ‘foo fighters’. Allied intelligence suspected these objects to be advanced German aircraft. Furthermore, Project Sign, the first U.S. Air Force UFO investigation group, noted that many of the advanced German flying wing designs were similar to many UFO reports.

The documentary also quotes Russian intelligence documents, including one that reads, “the Germans are in the throes of making and testing a new secret weapon, which has a large destructive force. The available bomb has a diameter of 1.5 meters. It consist of interlocking hollow balls.”

Another Soviet report said, “Communicated by our reliable source from Germany: the Germans have conducted two explosions in Thuringia with great force.”

Though the documentary makes some hefty claims, it also partially admits that their beliefs still have problems, namely in the form of uranium. The filmmakers were unable to discern where the Nazis would have gotten the uranium necessary to create an atomic bomb, and admit that many pieces of the puzzle are still missing.
