On Friday, June 19th, during an Israeli Channel 10 broadcast, European correspondent Miri Michaeli was joined on-screen by two anti-Israeli protesters waving Palestinian flags. Prior to the interruption, Michaeli was reporting on Israeli opposition leader Isaac Herzog’s recent lecture at the London School of Economics (LSE), where anti-Israeli protesters gathered to undermine the Israeli authority’s presence.

Unfortunately, such demonstrations on school campus is nothing new.

The protesters shown on-screen, one on either side of the Israeli reporter, chant “free free Palestine” and “from the river to the sea Palestine will be free” in an effort to intimidate Michaeli. However, Michaeli’s report is little affected by their assertive presence. Later that day, she shared a video of the altercation on Facebook with the caption, “I’m tough!”, using the experience admirably to display her strong will and determination.

As an Israeli reporter, Michaeli is no stranger to anti-Semitic intimidation. Previously in April, prior to broadcasting outside of the Gare du Nord train station in Paris, France, Michaeli was verbally attacked by a group of men for being a Jewish reporter.

In a Facebook post describing her personal experiences of anti-Semitism in Europe, the Israeli reporter wrote, “It happens here, every day and everywhere and it happened to me.” She continues, “just because my microphone had Hebrew writing on it.”

Following the event at the LSE library on Friday, fans and supporters applauded Michaeli for her strength amidst anti-Semitic intimidation.
