Jewish filmmaker and comedian Jessie Kahnweiler sets out to prove if her friend’s statement on white privilege is right or wrong in her latest video, “Jessie Gets Arrested”.

Kahnweiler opens the video, donning a totally kosher white tee, by telling viewers how her black friend told her that being white will come with privileges and that she’s definitely treated differently than black people. In an attempt to discover the validity of this statement, Kahnweiler takes to the streets to interview people on their thoughts.

Not even a minute into the video Kahnweiler asks a black man, “How do you feel about white privilege? Meaning, like, as a white woman do you think I can get away with more stuff” – and before she even finishes, he immediately replies, “Yes, you can. And you know it.” He also tells her that he’s been beat up by the police before and when she asks what he did he merely said, “Run.”

However, when she asks a white man if he had ever been "f*cked by the police" he says no. Even after prodding him for a deeper answer - noting how he looks like someone who would expose himself at a Dodger’s game - still nada. She later asks a white policeman if he thought white privilege exists, to which he answers that he didn’t "understand" the question.

So, naturally, Kahnweiler looks to prove that white privilege existed by doing what she does best – being a goof. Feigning public drunkenness, splashing around in a public fountain, trying to get photos with police officers, stripping her top off and dancing around in front of a group of men on the street, and even trying to sell anti-depressants to two police officers got her nothing more than a few stares and a warning. Kind of makes you think back to Eric Garner who was kept in a choke-hold for 15 seconds before he succumbed to the maneuver simply for selling cigarettes.

On a more serious note, Kahnweiler acknowledges that she’ll never understand what it meant to be black in America. Though, having a black boyfriend has opened her eyes to the injustices against black people. “My boyfriend has a scar on his head from having been bashed up by some cops when he was 12. He would have been arrested several times over for jumping the police chief like I did,” she says.

She goes on to say that, because she's Jewish, she isn’t “really white”, but still experiences white privilege, which is something her video certainly seems to prove.
