"The rapist doesn't care what I wear, so why do you?"

Over 400 women (and some men) marched through Jerusalem’s city center in protest of the sexual harassment, objectification and slut-shaming that many claim is pervasive in day-to-day life.

Many, very proudly scantily clad women marched, danced and chanted such slogans as: “'No' means 'no' means 'no,' what part of 'no' do you not understand?" and “Blame the rapist.”

As Ynet News reports, several Slut Walk attendees claimed to have personally experienced some form of gender-based misconduct. Said Tamar, a twenty-something Jerusalem resident, "There is a lot of harassment on the street, a lot of terror. I have been harassed by men on the street since the age of 14. It happened in other cities in the country and actually anywhere in the world.”

Tamar continues, outlining what the Slut Walk means to her, "There is a lot of harassment on the street, a lot of terror. I have been harassed by men on the street since the age of 14. It happened in other cities in the country and actually anywhere in the world.”

The Slut Walk is a beacon of hope for a city that has had recurring problems with the treatment of its women. Much of the problem stems from the dissonance between Jerusalem’s religious and secular populations.
