One Rabbi in Texas is counting his lucky stars this week. Elderly Rabbi Joseph Radinsky, rabbi emeritus of Houston’s Orthodox Jewish community, was stranded on the roof of his home when flooding hit Texas this week. When two concerned neighbours, Morgan Davies and Donniel Ogorek, paddled by in a canoe, Rabbi Joseph hitched a ride back to safety.

Rabbi Joseph is known for his love of puns in and around the community. Davies and Ogorek were proud to announce that he kept his spirits as he was rescued.

“I want to assure everyone that Rabbi Joseph Radinsky was in punny form even as he was being rescued,” reported Robert Levy, another neighbour of Radinsky.

Well, that puts an end to that old joke about the religious man stuck on his roof during a flood. Rabbi Joseph Radinsky was smart enough to take the first rescue offer instead of waiting for direct divine intervention.

Flash-flooding in Houston has been responsible for at least five deaths and two missing persons in the past week.
