Why One Man Got A Giant Tattoo in Hebrew That Reads "Matzah"

Needless to say, it's not what he thinks it means

The tale of an ill-advised ink enthusiast who wanted something done in a language he/she is not quite versed with is a familiar, yet unfortunate, reminder of the need to DO YOUR RESEARCH before having ink done.

Particularly, it seems Hebrew is one language that's very difficult for people to decipher, maybe because it reads from right to left? For example, Real Madrid's Mario Mandzukic recently got one that he intended to read, “What does not kill me, strengthens me,” but actually reads "Me strengthens, me kill not does what."

The latest comes from a Facebook post by Los Angeles-based Sruli Schochet, who said he encountered a military man while shopping at a local Wal-Mart, with a giant Hebrew tattoo on his arm.

The tatt, as you can tell from the image above, reads "Matzah."

According to Schochet, however, the man said proudly that it means "strength."

Per Schochet's Facebook page:

So we were at the Walmart in Bentonville, AR buying some food and we see this guy with a massive arm tattoo. Shmueli Newman asks him if he knows what it means. "Yes" he proudly says, "it means 'strength' just like my name. I got it while I was in the military."

We didn't have the heart to tell him...

“Let’s just say, there is a white guy in Arkansas walking around with the Hebrew word for 'cracker' on his arm ... and he doesn't know it!” Schochet later told BuzzFeed.

He also added how the poor man “got totally fooled,” which is a huge understatement. I mean, having a gigantic tatt on your arm that reads matzah, basically the least desirable form of food in the universe, is pretty much the lamest ink anyone could have done.

On the bright side, this guy could probably get a job as a spokesman for Manischewitz every year before Passover.
