This past Thursday the unthinkable happened in Kenya, when over 200 Christian students were shot by the Muslim terrorist group al-Shabab from Somalia. Since the tragedy, the Israeli group IsraAID has volunteered to help Kenyan government officials deal with the loss and aftermath of the shooting.

According to reports, students at Garissa University College were held at the mercy of the terrorist organization, which has been linked to al-Qaida and has killed 400+ people in the last two years. They divided the students up between Muslims and non-Muslim students and then killed 147 Christian students while seriously injuring another 79.

IsraAID has since been in talks with the Kenyan government to help them get the tools necessary to deal with the extreme loss, and grief, of its people.

“We’re basing it off the Israeli model,” explained IsraAID founder Sachar Zahavi in a report by The Jerusalem Post. “IsraAID’s focus would be to provide post trauma training and treatment to help the affected community and service providers cope with their grief.”

Currently they have two people dealing with the mass shooting and a small team in the northern part of Kenya, but hope to send a full team of Israelis to the tragedy struck area.

“The short term goal is to deal with the trauma,” continued Zahavi. “The long term goal is to have a group of Kenyan professionals who are able to respond to such emergencies and crises in the future.”
