Well isn't this ironic.

A Wisconsin father is currently under praise, and criticism, for his method of punishing his son. After finding out his son had bullied another boy at school, Timothy Robenhorst forced his offspring, Kayden, to hold up a sign calling himself a bully and then posting it on Facebook. In addition, he made his son do 50 knuckle push-ups, run a mile in the freezing temperatures, and then do an additional 10 incline push-ups.

The photo has since gone viral.

The online community was split about his means of punishing his son, some saying that resolving the conflict of bullying in school is more than just posting an apology on social media, while others believe that this punishment will last a lifetime. Kayden has even voiced his support of his father’s methods.

“When he found out, he woke me up at 3:30, in the morning, and he sat me down on the couch. And when I didn’t come up with a good enough excuse to save my butt, I told the truth,” he said, reports The Independent. “He made me do 50 knuckle push-ups, run a mile, then come back and do incline push-ups. And I’m still not done. I think it’s a really good punishment - I learned my lesson and he’s a good dad for doing it.”

While Robenhorst may seem commendable, he also raises a red flag, one that many media outlets have been overlooking. Alongside this anti-bullying father’s photo of his son’s apology is a photo of him in a red shirt emblazoned with a swastika. He’s also known as “SS Cowboy” by his friends, something that the online community should find perhaps more troubling that his son doing penance push-ups.

Despite his strong stance against bullying, Robenhorst has expressed his support of Nazi beliefs. When asked why he wore a swastika t-shirt, according to the report he simply answered, “Because it’s a symbol of my beliefs!”

While he may be against his son bullying other students, it seems like a backhanded gesture given his acceptance of Nazi beliefs, which are built on intolerance and racism. You realize that the Nazis are probably the most treacherous, dehumanizing bullies in recent history, right?

Maybe in hindsight it’s Robenhorst who, in addition to being educated on the ramifications of wearing a swastika and the meaning of the symbol, needs a social media shaming and a mile-long run in the cold followed by some push-ups…
