President Obama Considering UN Resolution Following Netanyahu Re-Election

With Netanyahu’s re-eletion, the White House has expressed their concern with Israel's reappointed leader. The Obama administration has voiced their concern with the Israeli leader’s tough campaign policies and stance against the Palestinian state, after he went after the hard-right community in a bid to get more votes before Tuesday's election.

According to an editorial published by the New York Times, the White House is now considering agreeing to passing the United Nations Security Council resolution “embodying the principles of a two-state solution that would include Israel’s 1967 borders with Palestine and mutually agreed swaps of territory.”

The White House intends to keep close ties with Israel and continuing their close friendship, however President Barack Obama would no longer be managing their relationship.

Instead, US Secretary of State John Kerry would be responsible to maintaining ties with Israel, in addition to Pentagon officials who would help oversee their military alliance.

“The president is a pretty pragmatic person and if he felt it would be useful, he will certainly engage. But he’s not going to waste his time,” said a senior administration official, as quoted by The Times.

“The premise of our position internationally has been to support direct negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians,” a White House official said in the report. “We are not in a reality where the Israeli government no longer supports direct negotiations. Therefore we clearly have to factor that into our decisions going forward.”
