Jon Stewart Pokes Fun At Israeli Elections, Netanyahu/Obama Relationship [VIDEO]

In a new clip on 'The Daily Show', Stewart claims Bibi stole American campaign strategy but that, even still, American politicians could learn a thing or two from him

Prime Minister’s re-election was met with joy from some, and a heavy dose of sarcasm from TV’s favourite host Jon Stewart. In a hilarious new clip from The Daily Show, Jon Stewart poked fun at the media’s representation of Netanyahu’s election, as well as his campaign strategy.

Stewart seemed baffled by American reporters, who’s announced Netanyahu’s election victory with headlines like “Bibi King!” which make it sound like he’s defeated President Barack Obama more than he defeated his political opponents like Isaac Herzog.

He also couldn’t understand why the media was surprised that Obama had yet to phone a foreign minister with a congratulatory message, given that Netanyahu spoke before congress without the White House’s permission, and tried to destroy a nuclear deal that had been in the works for years.

“You never call. You never write. I win an election, and yet I sit by the phone,” he said in imitation of both a Jewish mother and Netanyahu.

He also compared the President calling Netanyahu to calling up a friend to congratulate them on their new car after they’ve already hit you with it.

Stewart then claimed Netanyahu stole American election strategy, and jokingly added that he could now face a lawsuit.

Before elections on Tuesday, Netanyahu told voters that his left-wing counterparts were having busloads of Arabic voters brought in to try and dethrone him as Israeli Prime Minister. He played on the fears of the conservative voters and, as a result, was successfully re-elected to power, adding that he went 'Full Settler' on the Israeli political spectrum (just shy of Sheldon Adelson level).

“How dare you. How daye you gin up racist fears of minority turnout for short-term political gain. That’s our thing,” said Stewart. “You know what? Now you’ve got a copyright infringement suit on your hands, pal!”

However Stewart highlighted the fact that perhaps American politicians, specifically Mitt Romney’s “47%” comment back in 2012, should follow Netanyahu’s example.

“You know that stuff you say in private - your core beliefs, your prejudices - that you try to hide from people because you fear society would shun you? Well it appears all you have to do is turn into that skid.”
