As Leonard Nimoy’s last ever tweet, essentially his last words to his scores of followers and adoring fans, it seems the 83-year-old was aware that his time was near. He ended it with the acronym LLAP, as he did with all his tweets, which epitomizes not only his Twitter career but his career as an actor, writer, director, photographer, musician and pop culture icon: Live Long, and Prosper.

Nimoy, most famous for playing Mr. Spock on Star Trek, died at his home today, reports the New York Times, succumbing to his battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a lung disease which he attributed to his years of smoking.

The actor, alongside William Shatner, starred in the original Star Trek series during the late 1960’s, and continued to appear as Spock as the series transformed, in spinoffs, new incarnations, and even as an animated version of himself in The Simpsons. He also apeared in J.J. Abram’s reboot of the series.

Furthermore, the prolific and versatile Nimoy directed two of the Star Trek films, The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home. He also wrote two autobiographies where he discussed his relationship to the infamous character in I Am Not Spock and I Am Spock.

Last year, Nimoy spoke at The National Yiddish Book Center about how his experiences with Judaism inspired him to come up with the Vulcan salute. In 1991, he produced and starred in a TV movie about a Holocaust survivor, called Never Forget. He also received an Emmy nomination for his performance in A Woman Called Golda, where he portrayed the husband of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir.

You will forever be missed Mr. Spock. #LLAP
