Hilarious Parody Shows You What It's Like to Walk Ten Hours in New York As A Jew [VIDEO]

Well, we all knew this would happen. Anytime a YouTube video goes viral - let alone gets viewed an astounding 32 million times! - there is always a parody that ensues.

Shoshana B. Roberts and Rob Bliss' now famous street harassment video has brought awareness to people around the world of the terrible ordeal it is to be a woman in the city, let alone a woman who simply walks down the street without talking, once. And while that's absolutely nothing to laugh at, comedian Scott Rogowsky's parody of the video is, because he effectually creates something completely different and truly his own.

Using Roberts' premise, Rogowsky illustrates that, while it's not in a dangerous way, as a Jew - particularly as a Jew who looks very Jewish - you can't really walk down the streets of New York without being harassed either.

Only, in Rogowsky's case, those who harass him are Hasidic, Orthodox Jews trying to recruit him, asking him "Are you Jewish?" as he walks down the streets of Manhattan, before asking him to recite parts of the Torah.

Others tell him to "do a mitzvah, make your mother happy!" or, my personal favorite, "I don't need to see your schmeckel to know which way you pray, pal."

There's also one who prays beside him for five minutes non-stop, and a group of Jews that raise him on a chair as they sing 'Hava Nagila' (classic).

"I wanted to keep it real, to my own experiences, like a lot of my comedy, and it quickly occurred to me that while I may not suffer street harassment the way many women in the city do, I’m certainly not immune to street CHARASSMENT (a term I coined, as far as I know?)," the comedian told Heeb Magazine.
