Campus anti-Semitism is becoming a serious threat to Jewish students across the United States.

Last weekend, the Jewish brothers of Alpha Epsilon Pi, a historical Jewish fraternity house at Emory University in Atlanta, found swastikas spraypainted on their doors, occurring just hours after Yom Kippur ended.

During that same weekend, at Eastern Michigan University, abortion advocates chalked over pro-life messages with swastikas. While arguably it wasn't intended against Jews, it's anti-Semitic behavior nonetheless.

Last month at Yale University, swastikas were drawn on a whiteboard in a freshman dorm. This week, the renowned university experienced its second bout of anti-Semitism in weeks, after vandals drew swastikas at the entrance to a Yale University freshman residence hall.

The graffiti was found on a walkway outside the school's Durfee Hall. According to Yale College Dean Jonathan Holloway, students and faculty members have begun removing the swastikas, "but some faint impressions remain."

As reported by Yale Daily News, several students eventually drew hearts and other positive images in colored chalk on the defaced walkway. JTA reports that several students also wrote messages of support for the Jewish community.

“I condemn this shameful defacement, perpetrated anonymously under cover of night,” Holloway wrote in a campus-wide email. “There is no room for hate in this house.”

"The swastika … is particularly offensive and disrespectful toward the Jewish members of our community, but, in truth, it insults us all. The use of the swastika violates our values of respect, thoughtfulness, generosity, and goodwill. I will not stand idly by when this or other symbols of hate are used on this campus."

Senior Jewish Chaplain Rabbi Leah Cohen called the vandalism shocking. “Something as hateful as swastikas on campus — it’s not what Yale stands for, its values or its behaviors,” she said.

Police have since confirmed that they don't have any leads on who the culprits are. The Yale Police Department is continuing to investigate the case.
