Jewish Caregiver Denies Attacking Controversial Pro-Palestine MP George Galloway

It's doubtful that 60-year-old British member of parliament George Galloway would be greeted amicably by any pro-Israel members of the Jewish faith, or any Israeli at all for that matter, after proclaiming - as the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas was heating up - that Bradford, the city in which he serves as a member of the Respect party, was an "Israel-free zone."

But while many be hostile towards him, attacking and/or abusing the politician was certainly not the way to go, nor will it likely be seen as a positive reaction by a member of the Jewish community.

However, this exact scenario may have been what unfolded over the weekend as the controversial pro-Palestine MP was reportedly punched and attacked while posing for pictures in West London, allegedly by a Jewish caregiver, 39-year-old Neil Masterson.

Reports claim that Masterson, a former BBC manager, was shouting at Galloway about the Holocaust, and Holocaust denial, before he began punching and attacking him, and others who came to his rescue at an event at Golborne Road, Notting Hill.

Galloway was taken to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington for treatment, and stayed at the hospital overnight. Meanwhile, the Respect Party, in a shameful bid to gain sympathy from the public, tweeted pictures of his bruises.

Masterson, a Kensington resident, has since pleaded not guilty to religiously aggravated assault against Galloway, and not guilty to assaulting a male in his 40's who came to his aid. During the proceedings, the court heard that Masterson attacked the MP because he "was an enemy to Judaism."

According to prosecutor Tom Gill, Masterson said to police that "I didn't want him to think I'm scared, Galloway is Anti-semitic and I am Jewish." While he's pleaded not guilty to the assault charges, he may have to deal with other legal issues as police found marijuana on his person upon his arrest.

Masterson is currently a caregiver for a middle-aged woman who suffers from memory loss. He's been denied bail, and is set to appear before the Isleworth Crown Court later this month.
