Russel Brand Joins Boycott Against Israel [VIDEO]

The British actor says big business that 'facilitate the oppression of people in Gaza' should sever their financial ties to Israel

British-born actor Russel Brand, star of films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Arthur, has joined the likes of Brian Eno, Roger Waters, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, and several others, supporting the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement against Israel.

If you've been following the news lately, it doesn't really come as much of a surprise, as Brand has been vocal about the Gaza-Israel conflict as of late after telling pro-Israel Fox News reporter Sean Hannity to "return to humanity."

In a new episode of his online show, The Trews, the comedian is urging banks, big businesses, pension funds, etc. to sever all ties with Israel that he believes “facilitate the oppression of people in Gaza”.

Throughout the video (see below) Brand uses Barclays as an example, saying that the bank manages “the portfolios of an Israeli defence company called Elbit, which makes the drones that bomb Gaza.”

His words.

He continues to say that "The message they give us is the exact opposite of the reality, they're acting like they're part of our community."

Brand concludes by encouraging his fans and viewers to sign a petition via a campaign run by Avaaz, that will pressure companies - Barclays, HP, ABP, Caterpillar, to name a few - to withdraw their investments from Israel.

Thus far, 1.7 million people have signed the petition.

"In the wake of the terrible violence unfolding in Israel-Palestine, we, citizens from around the world, are deeply concerned about your companies’ continued investment in companies and projects that finance illegal settlements and the oppressive occupation of the Palestinian people," reads the mission statement on the petition.

"17 EU countries recently issued warnings to their citizens against doing business or investing in illegal Israeli settlements. Given those legal considerations, you now have the opportunity to withdraw investments and respect international law. This is a chance to be on the right side of history."

Several of the companies Brand lists have already spoken out on their decision to work with Israel, including Caterpillar, which recently stated that they share "the world's concern over unrest in the Middle East", but that they do not have “neither the legal right nor the means to police individual use of its equipment.”
