Danny Glover (Angels in the Outfield, the Color Purple) and a group of other actors are featured in a new documentary that focuses on an American social justice activist, entitled American Revolutionary: the Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs.

Grace Lee Boggs is a 98-year-old philosopher/activist.

Upon learning that the film is scheduled to screen in Tel Aviv, at the film festival DocAviv, however, Glover and the actors denounced the festival, announcing their support of the Boycott, Divestment, & Sanctions movement against Israeli culture and academics.

Boggs, Glover, and nine other actors featured in the film issued the following statement:

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine, and support their call for cultural and academic boycott of Israel… we were shocked to find the film slated to be screened at the DocAviv festival in Israel on May 13th and 15th. This was scheduled without our knowledge.”

DocAviv runs through May 17th.

Glover and co. state that they tried to have the DocAviv screenings cancelled, but festival organizers and film producers notified them that "this was not possible and they would move forward with the screening, over our objections," according to their statement.

They continued to note that Boggs “has explicitly stated her support of the boycott and believes this screening is in direct contradiction to her legacy and ongoing work as a revolutionary.”

This isn't the first time Glover has expressed his support of the cultural and academic boycott against Israel. In 2009, he was one of 50 celebrities who protested the Toronto International Film Festival's focus on Israel films.

According to a press release that was issued from BDS South Africa, Glover is also a supporter of the National Union of Mine Workers (NUMSA) and the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU). The release reads that "Both NUMSA and POPCRU are affiliates of South Africa’s largest trade union confederation, COSATU, one of the first trade unions in the world to back the boycott of Israel.”

If you're looking to stick it to Glover, and his entourage of anti-Israel supporters, check out American Revolutionary: the Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs at DocAviv festival today or on Thursday.
