An Orlando apartment complex which houses several Jewish students from the University of Central Florida has been defaced and vandalized with swastikas.

Nearly a dozen of the offensive Nazi-referencing symbols were carved into the walls of the hallway at the complex's University House apartments, which is close to the university campus.

Though the complex does not operate in conjunction with the university, members of the university are investigating the incident, releasing a statement that reads, "The anti-Semitic vandalism that took place at an off campus apartment building is reprehensible."

The incident occurred on Saturday. Students told media outlets that they believe the vandalism was orchestrated in time for Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, which began Sunday evening and ended Monday.

“It’s not like it was a little doodle by a kid. It was like someone keyed it onto the wall, circled it knowing there are Jewish students living here and on campus,” student Melissa Sherman said to WFTV. “We don’t think the timing was on accident because it was Holocaust Remembrance Day Sunday night and she discovered it on Saturday.”

Earlier this month at the same apartment complex, a mezuzah was also ripped off from a doorpost.

Management at the University House Apartments complex have since painted over the swasitkas, and released a statement to its residents, saying “additional measures are being taken.”

They're offering a $500 reward for information that can lead to an arrest.
