Jews in New York Dorm Served Mock Eviction Notices

Jewish students living in a New York University dorm woke up to mock eviction notices on their doors, which read “We regret to inform you that your suite is scheduled for demolition in three days.”

“If you do not vacate the premise by midnight on 25 April, 2014, we reserve the right to destroy all remaining belongings,” the notices continued. “We cannot be held responsible for property or persons remaining inside the premises. Charges for demolition will be applied to your student accounts.”

The notices, disgustingly cruel in nature, were reportedly handed out by activists from the organization Students for Justice in Palestine. Apparently, they felt justice was served by targeting innocent Jewish students and threatening to demolish their homes. It unfortunately brings to mind the fake pamphlets being handed to Jews last week in Donetsk, Ukraine, asking them to register or be deported.

A Jewish student at NYU commented on the eviction notices, saying they “made me feel targeted and unsafe in my own dorm room and I know others feel exactly the same as myself. I understand free speech rights, but if this was targeted solely to Jewish students then this appears to be of a more threatening nature rather than informative.”

The Jewish students who read the notices would find that, eventually, they were not official, but intended to "draw attention to the reality that Palestinians confront on a regular basis."

They also read that "Palestinian homes are destroyed as part of the state of Israel’s ongoing attempts to ethnically cleanse the region of its Arab inhabitants and maintain an exclusively ‘Jewish’ character of the state. By destroying Palestinian homes, the state makes room for illegal Israeli settlements."

Politics aside, the notices seem to be more threatening and harmful than to actually inspire thought. It doesn't seem likely that any of these Jewish students would read it and then rush to the library to find out more about Israel's policies regarding the matter.

They probably felt disgusted and targeted. And rightfully so.
