Internet Tycoon Says Rare Signed Copy of Hitler’s 'Mein Kampf' is an 'Investment'

Kim Dotcom, legally known as Kim Schmitz, has gained media attention for his possession of a copy of 'Mein Kampf' holding Hitler’s signature

German-born Kim Dotcom, founder of the infamous filesharing website MegaUpload, is currently battling extradition to the United States from New Zealand, where he has been accused of racketeering.

MegaUpload was shut down in 2012.

In addition, he is also battling the media after admitting to owning a rare signed copy of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. Last month, we reported that a rare two-volume set of the memoirs was purchased online to an undisclosed buyer for $64,850. Whether or not Dotcom was the buyer remains to be confirmed.

Dotcom has denied being a Nazi sympathizer, citing his copy of Hitler's hate-filled memoirs as an 'investment'.

On Thursday, he launched his own political party, the Internet Party, to oppose New Zealand’s September election, where he will campaign for a “free and fair” society. So far the party has not been well received.

In a recent interview with JTA, Stephen Goodman, President of the New Zealand Jewish Council, condemned Dotcom as showing “great disrespect to those who suffered under the Nazi regime as well as the New Zealand soldiers who fought and died to rid the world of this tyranny.”

Speaking with media earlier this week, Dotcom blamed “a disgusting smear campaign” for the negativity surrounding him and his Party.

Whereas owning a copy of Mein Kampf may certainly be an investment - the book was one of the most popular e-books of 2013 - it certainly does not help his reputation, or grant him further appeal to the public eye.

Don't expect the Internet Party to go far in New Zealand.
