As we all know, as it seems no one's been reporting about anything else these days, the American government has shut down for the first time in seventeen years.

Many sites have reported that it is Republican hesitance to accept President Obama's healthcare legislation, currently known as Obamacare, into their hearts is the main reason for the shutdown.

Now JTA reports that the Obama administration has reportedly stated that they may have to make certain budget cuts in order to negotiate with Congress re: the shutdown, including cutting military aid and defence assistance to Israel

"In the absence of a continuing resolution, we have no FY14 Foreign Military Financing, International Military Education or Peacekeeping Operations funds to obligate, said Marie Harf, a State Department spokeswoman.

Harf made the comment in response to the government's 'failure' to maintain its foreign policy agenda.

"So for example – I’ll just give you one example – FY 2014 security assistance funding for Israel will be delayed until a continuing resolution or until full-year appropriation is passed,” she added."The State Department’s ability to provide military assistance to Israel and other allies in the time frame that is expected and customary could be hindered depending on the length of the shutdown."
