Israel needed a win and a loss Tuesday as the UEFA U-21 Tournament carries on to the next round. In order to advance, the Israelis needed to defeat England, and for Norway to lose to Italy by a few goals.

But alas, despite Israel's 1-0 victory over the Brits at Jerusalem's Teddy Stadium, Norway's 1-1 match with Italy was enough for them to advance to the next round. Israel and England were both knocked out from Group A.

The Israelis were still jubilant and thoroughly celebrated the win, which is reportedly Israeli coach Guy Luzon's last game with the squad.

"To score in the capital city, in my home town, in front of my home fans, is a fantastic feeling," midfielder Ofir Krieff told UEFA. Krieff also scored the lone goal for Israel and dedicated it Luzon. "We did a really good job. The credit goes to the team and not to me even though I scored. It's all thanks to the great work of the staff and the players."

"It's hard to describe the fans in one word," added Boris Kleyman, the Israeli goalkeeper. "We are so happy to finish with a win, especially so that Guy will go in his new direction feeling good."

The Captain of the Israeli squad, Nir Biton, said it was an honour to play with his teammates and with Luzon throughout the tournament.

Italy and Norway go on to the next round, which starts Saturday night, along with Group B's Winners: Spain and Netherlands. Germany and Russia were both eliminated, with little chance to recover from early on in the tournament.
