Out of the darkness of last month’s shooting spree at Newtown Connecticut’s Sandy Hook elementary school during which 26 people – including 20 young children – were killed, comes a story of growth and rebirth.

More than 2,000 people have donated money to Hadassah to facilitate the planting of over 3,000 trees in Israel’s Beersheva River Park, a new commercial area being built by the Jewish National Fund (JNF).

Already over $61,000 has been raised for the mass tree planting in honour of the 26 victims of Sandy Hook, which was the brainchild of Veronique Pozner, the mother of Noah, the only Jewish victim of the tragedy.

The trees will be planted in a specific section of the new park that Hadassah has already planned to fill with a new forest and, with the cost of each tree $18, so far the memory of those innocents slaughtered at Sandy Hook will be honoured with more than 3,300 new lives.
