Jewish School Children Targeted in Attack in Southern France

A senseless and brutal terror attack on a Jewish school in the southern French city of Toulouse has left at least four dead, including three children.

According to early reports, a man riding a motorbike reportedly opened fire outside the Ozar Hatorah School on Monday morning, where many of the school's 200 students were waiting to enter the building at the start of the school day. The shooter then entered the building firing at students and teachers before fleeing on his motorbike.

Updates report that four have been killed, including a teacher, Rabbi Sandler, his two children Gavriel, aged 6, Arye, aged 3 and Miriam Monstango, aged 8, daughter of the school principal. Several students were also injured inside the building and some remain in critical condition.

"Unfortunately, this cowardly and brazen attack on young children reminds us that the global Jewish community needs to remain vigilant at all times," said Ted Sokolsky, President & CEO, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. "But an act such as this, targeting children, is particularly despicable. I'm hopeful that those behind this attack will be found quickly and brought to justice."

Elizabeth Wolfe, Board Chair, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto stated: "We at UJA Federation of Greater Toronto are deeply shocked and saddened by this senseless attack on innocent Jewish children. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go to the families of the victims as well as a refuah shlema to those injured in the attack. UJA Federation stands with France's Jewish community at this terrible time."
