UJA Toronto Delegation Makes its Way to Israel

Group Visits Projects Supported by Jewish Toronto

Senior leaders from UJA Federation of Greater Toronto visited Israel this week.

The delegation included UJA’s Board Chair Elizabeth Wolfe, President and CEO Ted Sokolsky, Campaign Director Steven Shulman, incoming campaign Campaign 2013 chairs Sarena Koschitzky and Bruce Leboff, the new chair of UJA’s Women’s Philanthropy, Laurie Sheff and Director of Campaign Operations Alison Himel,

During the course of their trip, they attended meetings of the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) Board of Governors and visited projects supported by UJA Toronto in the various regions with which it is partnered.

In Bat Yam, they met with student beneficiaries of UJA Toronto’s scholarship program, as well as elementary school students who are taking part in a new educational enrichment program which Toronto in supporting. In Eilat-Eilot, Toronto’s Partnership Region, the delegation toured the Renewable Energy Initiative, the Eilat campus of Ben Gurion University and the new emergency room at Yoseftal hospital which is currently under construction, seeing first-hand how the partnership is promoting regional development and creating demographic change.

The delegation was in Eilat on the day that Education Minister Gideon Saar was there to announce that Eilat had been awarded this year's National Educational Prize.

In accepting the award, the Mayor of Eilat, Meir Yitzhak Halevy, said that "the Toronto community has led the way with its support for Eilat's education system, and deserves much of the credit for this great achievement."
