In honour of the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Munich Olympic Games, seven members of the Israeli team who survived the brutal, senseless terror that wreaked havoc on the 1972 Games, returned to Munich’s Olympic village, where 11 of their friends and teammates where kidnapped and murdered.

During the 20th Olympiad In September ‘72 seven Israeli athletes - Shaul Ledani, Henri Hershkovitz, Dan Alon, Zelig Shtruch, Gad Tzabari, Yehuda Weinstein and Avraham Melamed - lived together in the same apartment that hey recently returned to some four decades later.

Shocked and filled with grief, the team – which arrived in Munich full of optimism and promise – returned to their homes in Israel with the caskets containing their murdered friends.

Since the murder spree that shocked the world took place on September 5, 1972, the Israeli Olymipian survivors have barely spoke about the horrors that permanently changed their lives.

Now, thanks to a new documentary film, produced by the Israeli History Channel in association with the German Biography Channel, the teammates are reunited for the first time since. The film tells the story from the point of view of the survivors, these men which, thanks only to a thin and vulnerable wall, saved them from sure death.

The documentary will be aired close to the opening of this year’s Olympic Games in London.

Recently the survivors sat in a studio, built inside the Olympic village, and talked openly about the friends they lost on that fateful day as well as their feelings of guilt and their respective retirements from the world of sports.

“Until today, I wonder whether I did the right thing when I didn’t shoot the terrorists’ leader, who was only a few meters away from me,” said Shtruch the marksman.
