An impressive troika of Jewish former major league Major League baseball players have decided to help Israel, in whatever way they can, with the Jewish state’s bid for the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

The three “Chosen” who have chosen to lend their talents and knowledge of the game are Shawn Green, Brad Ausmus and Gabe “The Hebrew Hammer” Kapler, all of whom got together recently in Los Angeles where they met with Israeli baseball officials and agreed to help Israel field a competitive team in next year's WBC qualifying round.

Israel is one of 16 countries invited to play in next year’s qualifying round, from which the top four teams advance to the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Green, 39, a native of Des Plaines, Illinois who enjoyed a stellar major league career with the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and the New York Mets, was a 1st round draft pick and a two-time major league All-Star.

"If I felt like that was a role that the team needed, I would prepare for it ... I'm pretty confident that it wouldn't be too huge a mountain to climb to get back and play," Green told the Associated Press. "I feel a strong connection to Israel and it would be an honor to put on the uniform."
