Howard Greenberg, the lawyer representing Levi Aron, the man who admitted to killing 8-year-old Orthodox boy Leiby Kletzky this summer, now claims that his client’s confession was coerced and that Aron is insane.

Greenberg made the announcement on October 24th during a hearing in New York State Supreme Court in Brooklyn adding that he will prove that his client is not guilty by reason of insanity.

Despite saying at the time of his arrest that he heard voices, a psychological exam found Aron – who pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and murder - competent to stand trial.

According to The New York Post, Aron, who appeared in the courtroom via video from his cell on Rikers Island, did not move or say anything during the hearing. The judge set a new court date for Dec. 21.

An intense two-day search in July for the missing Borough Park boy ended with the arrest of 35-year-old Aron after Kletzky’s dismembered body was found in two different locations by police. Aron, who admitted to giving the boy a ride when he stopped to ask for directions after becoming disoriented on his way from summer camp, was charged with murder.

Parts of Leiby's dismembered body were discovered by police who noticed bloody hand prints on Aron's freezer in his apartment.
