Vienna’s Central Europe Center for Research and Documentation has been awarded with a $200,000 grant by the U.S. State Department’s Office of International Religious Freedom for its innovative Holocaust education programs.

In a statement from the State Department, the center, called Centropa, was lauded for its use of technology and interactive social media to teach students in Central Europe about the Holocaust in Hungary, Lithuania and Poland "in ways in which they can relate, thereby increasing their levels of tolerance for other ethnic and minority groups.”

The statement also stated that, “by using technology, including web-based personal stories and traveling exhibitions, and teacher seminars, Centropa will prepare educators to teach and engage students with 20th century Jewish history and the Holocaust. Interactive social media will enable teachers and students in different countries to share stories and best practices."
