With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we are winding down on the year 2014, which means several things: it's time to figure out what to do for New Years, start shopping for the holiday season, and also, time for web browsers to unveil the most searched news stories and items of the year, in the spirit of recapping and all.

Unsurprisingly, the top searched items this year were the unfortunate demises of two of our favorite celebrities, Robin Williams and Joan Rivers, tied with the celebrity leaked photos of Hollywood actresses like Jennifer Lawrence, and others.

According to Ask.com, other top queries included Kim Kardashian - guess she did break the internet after all - and Kate Middleton.

Ask.com also searched for what most users asked in the form of a question, with the most popular one being "What happened to Renee Zellweger’s face?" after she appeared on the red carpet looking like a completely different person.

Users also asked "When is Derek Jeter's last game?"

Other popular items included Ray Rice beating up his wife in an Atlantic City casino elevator, ISIS, Malaysia Airlines, the Ice Bucket Challenge, Ferguson, the iPhone 6, World Cup, and Sochi Olympics.

On the more serious side, users were also very interested in the symptoms of Ebola. Millions also asked “What is happening between Israel and Hamas?” though I'd be wary of trusting anything the Internet has to say on that front.

According to Ask.com, the Israel/Hamas conflict was the year's biggest political stories, followed by the unrest in Ukraine/Russia, Hong Kong and Kim Jong Un, and the referendum in Scotland.

Jokingly, Ask.com also made a few predictions of what will dominate the news cycle in 2015, based on this year's queries: Keeping up with the Kardashians will finally be cancelled, Stephen Colbert will kill it as a late night talk show host, and Adele's new album will be her most successful to date.

Makes sense.
