At a press conference today in Vancouver, Walter Koenig confirmed that his son Andrew Koenig had committed suicide and that his body had been discovered in Stanley Park.

Best known for his role as Richard “Boner” Stabone in the ‘80s TV series Growing Pains, Koenig was reported missing and last seen at a bakery in Vancouver’s Stanley Park area on February 14, 2010.

The 41-year-old actor arrived in Vancouver on February 10 and was due to depart the city on February 16, but never boarded the flight. The Vancouver Sun reported that Koenig suffered from depression and mailed a letter to his family post-marked on February 15 from Vancouver. His mother, Judy, spoke to him last on the phone a few days prior to his disappearance.

"We've already said what a great guy he was and (what) a good human being. He was obviously in a lot of pain," said the elder Koenig. Of others suffering from depression, he adds: "If you can learn anything from this, it's that there are people out there who really care. So before you make that final decision, check it out and talk to somebody."
