Canada to Cut off Funding to UNWRA

Published: January 26th 2010

Last week the Canadian government informed the United Nations it would no longer give a lump sum of money to the Palestinian refugee agency known as UNWRA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, since most of that money goes straight to the pockets of the Palestinian Authority, where instead of humanitarian projects, it could likely be used to arm and train terrorists.

Canada is the first Western government to cut off funding for UNWRA. Rather, Canadian funding will go directly to specific projects such as food aid.

UNWRA has funded textbooks that deny the rights of Israel to exist and has paid teachers who call on Palestinian children to annihilate the Jewish State. On its payroll are radical Islamists and anti-Semites. In 2004, it was discovered that it used its own ambulances to help terrorists escape from Israeli sites they had just attacked.

UNWRA’s mandate is only to look after the four million refugees in 59 camps and encourage peace and understanding in the region.

Ottawa also decided to cut off funding to Alternatives, a Montreal NGO that two summers ago sponsored an education camp in Quebec that welcomed “500 motivated militants” from Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine and Venezuela.

KAIROS, an “ecumenical partnership” with a flagrant anti-Israel policy, at the forefront of boycotts against the importation of Israeli goods and visits by Israeli professors, also lost its seven million dollar grant.
