Pop superstar Shakira has announced that she will be speaking at the 3rd annual Israeli Presidential Conference in Jerusalem next week.

Much more than merely a chanteuse and dancer, the Colombian born Shakira is presently a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and heavily involved with philanthropic work around the world. In 1997 she founded Pies Descalzos (Barefoot Foundation), an organization dedicated to making education universally available to impoverished children.

“Education is the key to eradicating poverty and for peace and global stability,” the singer said in Germany last week.

Shakira will speak at the “My Recipe for a Better Tomorrow” event on June 21. Other speakers include Sarah Silverman and Wikipedia founder, Jimmy Wales.

“The speakers in the firstplenary of the Presidential Conference will each present their own unique prescription for a "better tomorrow": how must we act and what decisions must we make as states, as a society, as a community, and as individuals, in order to instill hope in the tomorrow towards which we are headed,” event organizers stated.

The Israeli Presidential Conference runs from June 21 to 23, and is expected to draw an estimated 3500 people from around the world. Facing Tomorrow 2011, “under the auspices of Israeli President Shimon Peres… will continue the tradition of welcoming extraordinary individuals from the world over, to enlighten us with their views and their rich experiences,” stated the Conference’s website.

This will be Shakira’s first visit to Israel.
