In an announcement that surprised no one, Republican Mitt Romney officially declared his intention to run in the 2012 US Presidential race on Thursday.

Making his first official address as a candidate, Romney wasted no time in accusing President Barack Obama of being unfair to both Israel and the United States.

“He seems firmly and clearly determined to undermine our longtime friend and ally,” said Romney, regarding Obama’s stance toward Israel. “He’s treating Israel the same way so many European countries have: with suspicion, distrust and an assumption that Israel is at fault.”

The former Massachusetts Governor also criticized Obama for traveling the world to “apologize” for America, for being weak on Libya and for failing to show support for dissidents in Iran.

This is not the first time that Romney has publically supported the Jewish State. In 2007, in an interview with The Jerusalem Post, Romney said:

“Israel is our friend and ally and is a key partner in the battle against radical, violent jihadism and terror,” he told the newspaper.. “And so our calculations in the Middle East must always include a thoughtful evaluation of the implications for our friends, including Israel…It’s important to me that we not in any way place pressure on Israel to take action which would further weaken its negotiating hand.”
