Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp

British Foreign Secretary William Hague, who was recently quoted in an embassy statement, saying, "Auschwitz-Birkenau is a searing reminder of the horrific consequences of intolerance and hatred. It should never been forgotten," is backing up those words.

It was announced on May 26 that Britain will contribute 2.1 million pounds, or 3.4 million dollars, to preserve the size of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.

Auschwitz-Birkenau is the most infamous symbol of the Holocaust, with one million Jews murdered there, mostly in its notorious gas chambers.

"I am determined that the government should take an active approach to preserving the memory of the Holocaust," said Hague.
