Mike Huckabee attacks Natalie Portman

The opinionated ladies on “The View” this morning had a lot to say about Mike Huckabee’s recent comments criticizing soon-to-be-mother Natalie Portman, who may be engaged but is not yet married.

“Get off the backs of women who are trying to raise their kids,” said Whoopi Goldberg, a single mother who was also raised in a one-parent household.

Mike Huckabee stated that Portman is setting a bad example for women by “glamorizing” single motherhood.

"There aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie,” he said. “Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children."

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, best known for her extreme right-wing views, explained that Republicans couldn’t have it both ways when it comes to the abortion and single motherhood debates.

“I beg of fellow conservatives … decide whether you’re going to condemn abortion or women having children,” Elisabeth said. “You are not able to really do both at the same time.”

Hasselbeck also voiced that comments such as Huckabee’s place the focus on the single mothers as opposed to the absent fathers.

“Look what we’re doing here. We are then still talking about the women here. Where is the conversation about the men who are not active in their children’s lives?” Elisabeth asked.

It is believed that Huckabee has his sights set on the White House. Perhaps this is a PR stunt? If so, it’s a failed attempt. If Hasselbeck, an ardent Republican, is speaking negatively of you, you might want to start rethinking your political strategy.
