The Israeli film Disengagement, showcasing well known Israeli and French talent, will be released on DVD on Tuesday, Dec. 14.

It is directed by Amos Gitai, who is well-known for the Israeli films Kippur (1999), Kedma (2001) and Alila (2002). Starring in Disengagement is French actress Juliette Binoche, who has acted in over 40 films and may be recognized in such lead roles as opposite Johnny Depp in Chocolat (2000). In a supporting role is Jeanne Moreau, and Israeli Liron Levi who was in the news this past week for landing a role in a Sean Penn film about the son of a Holocaust survivor.

The plot of Disengagement follows the story of a Frenchwoman who, when her father dies, goes to Israel to find the daughter she abandoned so she can gain her inheritance. Once there, she finds the young woman is about to be evicted from a settlement in Gaza.

The film is a French/Italian/Israeli co-production and was shot in early 2007 in France, Germany and Israel. It premiered later that year at the Venice Film Festival and also in 2007 at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Disengagement is in French, English, Hebrew and Arabic, with English subtitles. It runs 115 minutes and received positive reviews from Variety and Screen International.
