Within My Walls

Israeli singer and composer Idan Raichel has been asked to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony in Oslo, according to the Jewish Chronicle. American soul and R&B singer India Arie will also be performing at the ceremony on Dec. 10, according to reports.

The Idan Raichel Project fuses African, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin sounds with unique production techniques. At the forefront of the project is Raichel, who produces, composes and sings on many of the tracks.

Before starting the project, Raichel had been working as a backup singer and a recording session player. But he eventually set out to work on his own music and decided to invite about 70 musicians to collaborate with him on a demo. The demo eventually turned into an album that has captivated audiences worldwide.

Raichel performed in Toronto last year at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre to a nearly sold-our crowd. The singer-songwriter has also brought his musical talents to Montreal and Vancouver.

Raichel’s latest album, Within My Walls, was released internationally last year. The Israeli artist co-wrote tracks with Columbian singer Maria Gómez, along with artists from around the globe. Raichel brought together a 24-piece orchestra for the album and worked alongside Assaf Dar, an acclaimed Israeli musical arranger. He invited a number of musicians he admires to work on the album, including percussionist Zohar Fresco and bassist Alon Nadel.
