Aroma Hosting Israeli Chocolate Tasting Evening

For many Jewish students, Aroma represents a great Israeli Cafe chain that reminds them of their time in the country.

 

This inspired a committee of students from all universities and colleges, through Hillel of Greater Toronto, to plan a chocolate tasting event at the Yonge and Eglinton location of the cafe.

 

“The inspiration behind the event is mainly that everyone likes chocolate,” said Aviv Sarner, a student at Ryerson University. “We thought it would be a great way to bring people together while at the same time adding a strong Israeli flavour to the evening.”

 

The event is taking place Monday evening and the response was “overwhelming,” said Eyal Melamed, a York University student. Over 200 students and young adults RSVP'd for the event, but due to limited space only 100 will be able to take part. Because of the high demand, Melamed said they are planning another event for next semester.

 

Hillel students approached Chef Eran Marom of Marron Bistro to run a chocolate tasting seminar due to his “expertise and knowledge” in the chocolate industry and particularly in the Israeli chocolate industry. Sarner and Melamed said Marom was excited to get involved.

 

Aside from Aroma representing an Israeli chain that many students are familiar with, Sarner said they also chose the cafe because it has recently come under public scrutiny.

 

“Recent attempts to Boycott the chain made it even more significant for us to hold the event there and support Aroma,” said Sarner. “Gladly Michal Gil, the owner of the Yonge and Eglinton location, agreed to host the event there.”

 

The event will include the tasting of 15 different kinds of Israeli imported chocolate, and Aroma gourmet coffee and other drinks will be served.
