York University’s students, who were upset over recent allegations about Hillel @York in the student newspaper, the Excalibur, took a stand on Monday, November 1, and organized a walk through campus. 40 students came out to support the unified cause between Hillel and other groups on campus. Participants were cheering and encouraging onlookers to join along the way.

On October 20, the Excalibur published an article entitled “York prof questions Hillel’s advocacy,” in which it reprinted a letter by York Professor David Noble who alleges that Hillel @York acts an agent of a foreign government by advocating for Israel. Noble asked the university’s president Mamdouh Shoukri to end the Jewish club’s Israel advocacy.

In addition to Monday’s walk on campus, Hillel @York responded with an ad in last week’s Excalibur, which depicted students dressed up in Purim costumes and saying that they are “Proud to be an agent for peace and democracy, Hillel @York.”
