British actor Robert Kazinsky will play the drarf Fili in director Peter Jackson’s two-part film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

The 26-year old Kazinsky, who is Jewish, is well known for his role as Sean Slater on the BBC’s Eastenders.

According to several media reports, Kazinsky speaks Hebrew. He has previously starred in Israeli TV commercials.

On Friday, Kazinsky announced on Twitter that he was “looking forward to some orc slaying!” after saying earlier in the week that something big was in the works, “News only days away, stay tuned folks.”

The role of hobbit Bilbo Baggins will be played by Martin Freeman (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Office).

After multiple production delays, it looks as though the first of the two Hobbit films will finally be released in December 2012.
