Lenin’s Embalmers, a dark comedy based on a true story by Governor General Award-winning playwright Vern Thiessen, is coming to Toronto and will play at the Al Green Theatre in the Miles Nadal JCC from Oct. 30 until Nov. 21.

Lenin's Embalmers tells the captivating tale of Boris Zbarsky and Vladimir Vorobiov, two scientists who were chosen by The Committee for Immortalization to embalm Vladimir Lenin after his death in 1924.

The embalming of the leader of the World Proletariat, which took almost four months and began two months after Lenin's death, was hailed a scientific "miracle" by scientists around the world. Lenin's embalmers developed a process that restored the body to a lifelike appearance and is still used for preventive maintenance today. Yet, as so many had during the Great Terror, Lenin's embalmers reached levels of power and influence that ultimately led to their death by a paranoid Stalinist regime.

The play was inspired by the book Lenin's Embalmers by Ilya Zbarsky and Samuel Hutchinson, translated by Barbara Bray.

Directed by Geoffrey Brumlik, Lenin’s Embalmers stars James Durham, David Fox, Martin Julien, Hardee T. Lineham, Arne MacPherson, Harry Nelken, Steven Ratzlaff and Janine Theriault.

Lenin’s Embalmers will be playing at the Al Green Theatre, Miles Nadal JCC, 750 Spadina Avenue. Single tickets are now on sale and range from $40.50-$64.50 (plus HST / service charges). To purchase tickets to LENIN’S EMBALMERS call 416.366.7723 or purchase online at www.stlc.com.
