Condé Nast readers have named Vancouver the “Best City in the Americas” in the publication’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey.

“It’s a great honour for Vancouver to be so highly praised by Condé Nast Traveler magazine,” Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson said in a statement. "Tourism is a major contributor to our city's economy, and our goal is to ensure that Vancouver remains a favourite destination for travellers in the years ahead.”

The Readers’ Choice Awards will be featured in Condé Nast Traveler’s November 2010 issue. The awards detail top cities, hotels, airlines, and cruise lines from around the world. The poll asked readers to rate cities in a variety of areas such as restaurants, culture and sites, friendliness and ambience.

“This award underscores our efforts to showcase our urban life, arts, spectacular sights and wide range of attractions, which make Vancouver an amazing vacation destination,” said Kevin Krueger, British Columbia’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, in a stament. “This honour, from the readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine, will surely encourage more visitors to discover what the city of Vancouver and our spectacular province have to offer.”

Vancouver has received a number of awards in the past few years. Last year, the city was named “North America’s top destination for international meetings” by the International Congress & Convention Association, “top city in the Americas” in the Mercer Human Resource Consulting annual quality of living survey and “the world’s most liveable city” by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
