Toronto’s Beyond The Pale has received four Canadian Folk Music Award nominations for their latest album Postcards. The band has garnered the highest number of nominations this year from the prestigious awards.

Beyond the Pale is nominated in the Ensemble of the Year category and the Pushing the Boundaries category, among others.

The band is up against Daniel Koulack and Karrnnel, Duo Duval Boulanger, Oliver Schroer & Stewed Tomatoes and Sokoun Trio in the Instrumental Group of the Year category. They’re up against four other groups for the World Artist of the Year-Group award, including Le Vent Du Nord and the Roberto Lopez Project.

The klezmer folk group features Eric Stein (mandolin, mandocello, cimbalom), Bret Higgins (bass), Aleksandar Gajic (violin, viola), Bogdan Djukic (percussion, violin), Milos Popovic (accordion) and Martin van de Ven (clarinets). The band has been playing together for more than a decade. They’ve performed at a number of Jewish music festivals, including the Ashkenaz Festival in Toronto.

Postcards is Beyond The Pale’s third album. It features guest vocals by Vira Lozinsky on arrangements of Yiddish tracks. The group's previous albums have received Canadian Folk Music Award nominations as well.

The winners of this year’s Canadian Folk Music Awards will be announced at a gala event in Winnipeg on Nov. 20.
