Daily Show host Jon Stewart

On his opening spot on The Daily Show Monday night, Stewart said Sanchez “really nailed what it was like growing up in central Jersey in the early 70s, the fortunate son of a single mother in the education field.”

In a taped replay of his radio show last Thursday, Sanchez was heard declaring that he thinks “Jon Stewart's a bigot.”

"Omigod!" Stewart said from his anchor desk. "Rick Sanchez knows my name!"

After playing back the segment of the interview where Sanchez questioned whether Jews should be considered an oppressed minority, Stewart, himself a Jew, acknowledged it had angered him.

This was because, he explained, that "The Daily Show," which doesn't tape on Fridays, couldn't poke fun at Sanchez's outbursts until Monday — "and there's no way this cat survives the weekend at CNN."

Stewart was, of course, right. By Friday afternoon, CNN had announced Sanchez was "no longer with the company," Haaretz reported.
