An Exercise in Body and Soul

Gym owner Darren Katz

As well, Body + Soul always has someone in charge of continuing education, to keep the gym and staff up to date and on the cutting edge of the industry. “We are always improving,” says Katz.

And like most success stories, a key ingredient seems to be allowing things to expand organically, slowly but steadily gathering momentum. “We plan to expand and open more locations,” Katz says. “But we don’t want to expand for the sake of expanding, or for ego sake. We will when we’re ready and have the right people in place, the right location, and funding. I’m not really in a hurry, but we do have a very special concept and it’s the kind of thing I would like to share with the world.”

Having trained for almost 11 years, Katz currently trains about 50 to 60 hours per month, splitting his time equally between the two locations. As well, Body + Soul memberships are month-to-month, a relief for many who’ve got caught in the gym web before.

Body + Soul no longer offers classes, but that’s because they feel it goes against what they really believe in. “We focus on personal training and group training, which is 3-6 people working with one of our trainers,” says Katz. Which is great, because it offers a very fresh, personalized and intimate approach to fitness.

“I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else, anywhere else, with anyone else,” Katz concludes.

How’s that for passion?
