From Degrassi to a rap career…to the White House?

Toronto-born Jewish rapper Drake is hoping to play U.S. President Barack Obama if a biopic ever makes it to the big screen. The former television actor, who played a wheelchair-bound character in the hit Canadian series Degrassi: The Next Generation, and released his long-awaited debut album Thank Me Later in June (which has already gone platinum in Canada and gold in the U.S.) spoke to Paper magazine about his desire to play Barack Obama.

He told Paper, “I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama's life soon because I could play him….I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don't change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice.”

Though no one’s called him for the role yet, Drake is hoping his early preparations will pay off – if the opportunity ever arises. “I want to be involved in great film projects,” he said. “I don't want to do the basketball movie that everyone does. I don't want to do the typical black film that everyone expects. I think that I have enough experience to actually be involved in a real meaty project full of substance.”
