High School Musical star Zac Efron will receive the Shining Star Award at the Maui Film Festival. The 22-year-old actor will be honoured at an opening night ceremony on June 16 at the Celestial Cinema.

A number of young actors have received the award over the years, including Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel.

"We are thrilled to honour Zac Efron with the 2010 Maui Film Festival Shining Star Award, especially on opening night at the Celestial Cinema in the first year of the festival's second decade," Festival Director Barry Rivers said in a statement.

"With this year's mantra, 'Trust the Future' considered, Zac, an actor with abundant talent, an extraordinary career behind him and an even more brilliant one ahead of him, is an exemplary shining star," Rivers continued.

Efron can next be seen on the big screen in the drama Charlie St. Cloud – based on the book with the same title. The 17 Again actor recently flew to Vancouver to re-shoot scenes for the movie, according to reports.
