Pro-Israel rally.

A pro-Israel rally, comprised of approximately 500 passionate individuals, took place on Tuesday night outside the Turkish consulate in Los Angeles.

The crowd placed the blame squarely on the Turkish government for permitted the Gaza-bound flotilla, funded by the Turks, to set sail on May 31 in an attempt to breach the Israel-imposed blockade.

Currently, 1.5 million Palestinians inhabit Gaza, and the pro-Palestinian activists aboard the convoy of ships claimed they wanted to transport humanitarian goods to Gaza’s civilian population.

It was not the transfer of aid, however, that those at the rally took issue with, the Jewish Journal reported. Rather, the crowd viewed the flotilla as a provocation. Eli Baron, a neurosurgeon at Cedars Sinai hospital and a participant in Tuesday’s demonstration, called Hamas “committed to Israel’s destruction.”

Roz Rothstein, the CEO of StandWithUS, an Israel advocacy group and one of the organizers of the rally, also participated in the demonstration on Tuesday. She also emphasized the relationships existing between the groups aboard the ship with Hamas, particularly IHH, a Turkish organization believed to have provided financial support for Hamas in the past.

“This is about Hamas, [and] Hamas is a genocidal terrorist organization,” Rothstein said. “And here’s a boat saying, ‘We’re delivering goods to Hamas,’ Israel’s enemy.”

This week, the UN held an emergency session, together with the Turkish government, and criticized Israel for the raid and subsequent deaths that occurred in the flotilla crisis.

According to Rothstein, however, “Israel is in a state of war, so it’s Israel’s obligation, it’s Israel’s duty, to protect its citizens. Every sovereign country has the right to protect its shores from groups like this.”
